Your Projector’s Lamp Plays A Bigger Role Than You Think It Does

projectorWhen you go out and decide to make a purchase on some new tech, you’re more than likely going to want to know everything about what it is you’re buying. You want to learn what the product does. Are you going to have to perform regular maintenance on it? Do you need any accessories to bring out the product’s full potential? Should something break or become faulty, how do you fix it and how much is it going to cost? One such product that you have to take all of these things into consideration is a projector. You buy a projector for many reasons, but there are factors to consider. Of course picture quality is often the biggest concern, but what about the projector lamp?

Not many think about the projectors lamp when they first get the projector. It’s normal. You are so excited to get this new projector up and running. You want to check out how well the picture quality is and how responsive the projector itself is. So you turn it on, and you notice how bright it is. That is not just some type of coincidence. The brightness of your new projector is directly affected by the projector’s lamp and the cleanliness of the lamp holder, and unfortunately it won’t stay that bright forever.

When we talk of brightness in projectors, we measure it like we would with any other type of light source; in lumens. Now depending on what type of projector you are going to use, that will likely determine how bright it will be. Should you be looking into getting a business projector, then you can expect to see the images thrown onscreen to be quite bright. Most cheaper models are upwards of around 3500 lumens. By cheap I obviously mean price. You can find a projector with this type of lumen brightness count for less than $1000. That may seem like a bit more than you intend to pay, but remember it’s for the business. If you start to look for a projector for the home, then you need to start looking more at the lumen count and lamp life of your new device. The average consumer is going to take a lot more into consideration when purchasing due to the fact that they’re going to be viewing it for different purposes. They want to look at how well and where they can place it, the image quality, and obviously cost. Because of all of the factors, especially picture quality, household consumers will often choose a projector with less brightness, but better picture quality.

The life span for these projector lamps obviously differentiate as well. It all depends on how often you are going to use your projector. If you are going to use it at full brightness, you can expect around 3000-4000 hours of usage. If you choose to go the “eco” or low power setting, you’ll just be sacrificing a little bit of brightness for an extended life on  your lamp. Certain projectors will give a whole new meaning to long lamp life, if they are used in “eco” mode. While the standard is around 4000-5000 hours in the power save mode, some projectors will be able to push the lamp life a lot longer than that. That’s a very good thing, seeing as how some lamps can get very pricey, especially when dealing with higher end projectors.

When you are looking into projectors, you want to take everything into consideration. Everything has a cost, even the lamp in your projector. Learn more before you rent or buy.
