Should Pico Projectors Be Coupled With Other Devices, Like Smartphones?

Thursday, April 10th, 2014

There have been a few items that we have seen recently that have been coupled together. Some devices can make this work out in their favor. Take for example the smartphone. The smartphone is basically a PDA with phone call and texting capabilities. The smartphone even took over the MP3 player by adding the same functionalities as the other device. So many things have been added onto the features of a smartphone, so many different applications and functions, that it now seems like they are just mini computers. They basically do everything your laptop does. I mean, there are different applications that have come up on the mobile app store, providing versions of their software (like Garageband for example) for direct mobile use. Now what about projectors though?

A projector is a bit different that an MP3 player or a Game Boy. It’s not as compact, normally, and tends to offer a function that can’t really be coupled with other tech devices. The biggest reason being the action of image projection. Some people use projectors for their entertainment systems, and this is where they really shine. Trust me, if the Game Boy or PSP was able to project their images on the wall, a lot more people (yours truly included) would have paid pretty handsomely to own one. But here in lies the issue. When you put two devices together, especially if one of those devices happens to be a projector, you arent able to fully focus on each devices’ separate functions and quality while maintaining a small size. We love our technology small, and that’s exactly why the pico projector came along. The pico projector by itself offers exactly what you may need for a short presentation or even a college dorm movie party. You’re smartphone offers you access to basically anything you need as long as you have a phone plan and an internet connection.

Putting the two together does come with some pretty noticeable benefits. In that same thought process, there are some drawbacks. Take the Ayane pico projector smartphone. Yes, a smartphone with a pico projector built into it. All in all, not a bad idea. The only issue being that with the size of a typical smartphone, Ayane has a certain standard to adhere to. While, yes, there are a few brands like Samsung that put out larger phones, the typical size you are going have is about 5 inches or so. Since this is the market standard, Ayane has to put all of the components and features that make a smartphone a smartphone, while still finding a way to keep the pico projector it packed inside up to standards.

The phone itself isn’t anything fantastic by any means. With only a 2000mAh battery, 4GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, and a 1.2GHz duel-core processor, you’re getting literally the basics in terms of what we consider a high quality smartphone. The pico projector does offer a 42 inch display when thrown on the wall. It offers a 480p resolution and 1,000:1 contrast ratio. Definitely not the BEST picture, but for packing that into a smartphone, it definitely gets the job done. But again, this is why some devices might not be suited to be spliced together. Sacrifices will have to be made on both devices, and the quality may suffer in comparison to the industry standards of the modern world.

If you are in need of something that gets the job done, it may not be the worst investment. However, should you want to get the job done with a bit more quality, renting your pico projector may be a better choice.

The Optoma PK320 Is A Pico Projector With Power

Sunday, April 6th, 2014

Have you ever noticed that the smaller a device gets, the more impressive it seems? While this is not to sound cross or sarcastic towards any company or device, it just seems to be the norm. It’s never a bad thing to have larger devices shrunken down to accommodate for more mobile purpose and functionality. Remember when you first bought your boombox or Playstation 2 and how big and bulky it was? Then as time went on, we were delivered the smaller versions of these devices. They performed exactly the same as their larger counter parts but were a lot more portable. That is, luckily, the same thing that has happened now with projectors. Instead of the large boxy things from our memories of 4th grade math class, we now have some that are a bit smaller.

Pico projectors are essentially portable projectors that can be put in your pocket and taken with you on the go. They run on battery charge but can deliver the perfect visuals you need for meetings or impromptu movie sessions with friends.

In case you have been on the search for a new pico projector, or just want to start out with the best of the best, the Optoma PK320 may be the one you’ve been waiting for. Pico projectors are perfect for business meetings, and this is the one to prove it.

The throw of this particular pico projector sits at almost 20 feet in range, and can display images up to 150 big diagonally. No matter how you slice it, both of these numbers are enough to get your attention. The projector itself is pretty small. Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand actually. The projector is only 4.7 inches long, 2.7 inches wide, and a mere 1.2 inches tall. something that can easily fit into a bag or your pocket.

The projectors image quality is pretty substantial for its size as well. It’s contrast ratio sits right at 3000:1 which means you’ll get some really vibrant pictures when you need them. Your blacks will be black, your whites will be white, and everything in between! The Optoma’s aspect ratio is 16:9 with a pixel resolution output of 854 x 480. While it may not seem like much, the resolution rate is actually the industry standard for these types of projectors. The projector can be powered through an AC adapter, but should that not be available, it can run about 45 minutes on a standard charge, and about 90 minutes on “Eco” mode. Perfect amounts for any business presentation you might have.

The projector also comes with 2GB of internal memory storage, but it might be better to just stick with a USB flash drive as there is an available USB port for it as well. By carrying the flash drive with you, it eliminates the need for you to bring your laptop into the presentation or have it with you when getting ready to watch a movie with friends. If you are going to go portable, you might as well go completely portable right?

The best part is that this projector retails for only $129 currently. Definitely not a bad price for the quality and size. However, if you are on the fence or new to pico projectors, renting one for your next business presentation isn’t a bad idea at all.
