This Handheld Projector Creates An Interactive Screen

Wednesday, August 13th, 2014

touch projectorThere have always been companies that put out handheld projectors, but the new TouchPico from TouchJet is putting a totally new twist on it. This little projector can turn any flat surface into an interactive screen!

It is a small projector that you can hold in your hand. It can run any Android app and projects pictures up to 80 inches on any wall. At 150 lumens, it can produce a pretty good, bright image, and it ships out with a special stylus to use with it.

One of the coolest parts about the whole projector is the way the included stylus works. It isn’t attached to the projector at all so you can move around and use it. One end of the stylus has an infrared switcher, and the projector has an infrared camera attached to it that can track the movement of the pen in front of the TouchPico’s screen. This means that you can use it to interact with any objects on the screen using the stylus and using tapping gestures.

These would be great for a lot of different applications. There are a ton of different projectors out there that are being used for educational purposes, but they are outdated and need special screens to project on in order to work properly. With the TouchPico, you can project images on any flat surface that you can find. Not only that, but it is designed to sit very close to the wall and at a high angle. That means that no matter what you are doing, it would be really hard to block the projection. Throw in the interactive screen with the stylus, and that is just the icing on the cake.

Also, not trying to put any ideas in your head, but if you’re feeling really irresponsible and want to waste some time in between important work… I’m sure it would be an absolute blast to play Android games on. Just throwing that out there.

The TouchPico has HDMI and audio outputs on the back. It also has built in Wi-Fi and can be used with the Android Screencast technology.

TouchJet is expecting to ship these out in October. They recently launched an Indiegogo campaign to help fund the manufacturing of the TouchPico. Expected price around $500 or below. At that price, it seems like a steal.

LG’s New LED Based Projector, The PG85U

Thursday, May 1st, 2014
LGprojectorLG’s newest video projector is an LED-based model, giving it a 30,000 hour light source. The LED light source pretty much does away with the idea of having to replace a lamp. This is probably one of the best long term ideas as far as projectors go. You’re sure to get your money’s worth out of this projector. For those who are interested in projectors, the idea of an LED based projector is amazing just because of how long it will last. The only downfall to this kind of projector would be the light output. Pressure lamps are still much brighter than LED lights. As this projector shows, LED lights are getting much brighter than they once were. At the same time though, pressure lamps are getting better, lasting longer, and are going down in price. There are pros and cons to both types of projectors. When considering your options as far as projectors go, it is important to keep this these things in mind. If you are going to go the more traditional route and get one with a pressure lamp, you should note that the light output will degrade by about half by the time the expiration date rolls around. In order to keep your picture looking good, you would have to replace your lamp when it has reached about 50 percent of its expected lifespan. It seems like a lot to worry about and keep up on. If you are looking for something a little more low maintenance, then the LG PF85U might be a fantastic choice.

Also, when you are factoring in cost, the LG seems like a much better value as well. When you purchase a normal projector, you’re not just paying the initial cost. You are going to be paying for the upkeep on it and new lamps for as long as you have the unit. It may not seem like a big deal, but it adds up. Though an LED based projector may have lower light output, is it worth it in the end because of the lower cost and less hassle? It depends on what you are expecting out of the projector, how many hours per week you will be using it, the light settings you will be using it in, and basically just your personal preference.

Either way, the new LG PF85U is a really interesting projector that is surely worth thinking about and at least taking a look at. It will be hitting the market soon, so you can see for yourself if an LED projector is right for you.

Why Using A Projector Is Better Than Using Your Tiny TV

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

It has always been a symbol of power amongst friends; who has the bigger TV? Never has this fight been a fair one, as we see friend against friend constantly trying to one-up each other. This is to be expected as most all males do love competition. However, the prices of TV’s are never cheap enough to where we feel like we have just gotten a steal, and can walk away with our wallets still content. The other downside is that it seems like as soon as you buy that new $3,000 TV, it is already obsolete. Well, why stick with a TV that is constantly stuck at 55″ or 70″ max? Why not venture into the realm of projectors? After all, there are a multitude of reason’s as to why they out class TVs.

projector

Think about the size for one. This is probably the first thing you will should consider. While it may be true that you don’t necessarily NEED a TV the size of the moon, it is never a bad feeling to know that you can own one. The sad truth is, is that depending on the size and type of the display, ultimately affects the price. When picking up a projector, the size limitation basically goes out of the window. The size of your “screen” is limited only to the size of the blank wall you will be projecting your images on. Movies, TV, web surfing, and video games look great on a 70″ 1080p TV display. They look even bigger and better on a 108″ 1080p display! The fact is, is that you are paying for fixed size and display type when buying a TV. You only pay for display type when you rent or buy a projector.

Since you an increase the overall size of the image depending on the size of the wall, this is where the whole 4K benefits really kick in. At the normal distance most of us sit away from the TV, it is next to impossible to see a real difference in the pixel count/quality between Ultra HD 4K resolution and regular 1080p resolution. Take that pixel count and expand it on the wall. Now you have that crystal clear picture that everyone raves about with the added pixels. Even at magnified viewing based on the distance from the wall, a 4K projector’s clarity is unmatched. The only downside is finding, and at an affordable price.

Since you are expanding the image, all the light from the display has more room to spread out. This answers the question of, “will my eyes hurt?”. That answer is no. Again, the light is not as concentrated into a smaller area like it would be for a TV. This fact along with the ability to easily mount most projectors make them the obvious rental or purchase. You obviously get into more expenses should you decide to set up the wiring in the walls or get a projection screen. Then again, there is nothing wrong with having a nice stand for it, plugging it in, and displaying it on a solid white wall. TVs are a lot heavier than projectors, so remember that. Should you still be on the fence, remember that renting your projector before you buy it first is never a bad idea.

How To Choose The Correct Projector For Your Business Meetings

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

Having a projector for your business makes life a lot easier for everyone when you are conducting meetings or having a video conference. The biggest problem most people have is being able to choose the correct projector to fit their personal business needs, as managing a business is not that easy, so meetings and payments are difficult, so having the best resources is important and learning about filing for both W2 and 1099 form can be useful for this as well. This can take a lot of time and research. While you are looking for the projector that fits your business perfectly, consider the following.

Brightness

One of the most important things to look at is brightness. There are different projectors with different brightness levels for use with lights off, or light on. Depending on how bright the room is, selecting the correct brightness level is going to insure that you get the highest quality picture. If you are going to be using the projector in a well lit room, then you will require a projector with a high lumen count. anything between 2000 and 300 should get the job done. There are also many projectors that you can control the brightness level on, so you may also want to consider one of those models so you can be prepared for any situation.

Resolution

No matter what you end up using the projector for, you always want the best resolution possible. If you are in need of bright colors and a clear picture, then you will probably want to shoot for something at least in the 720p range. 1080p and 4K models are available as well, depending on your budget. 4K is the latest high-definition technology, and will give you an amazing picture all the time, no matter what with an incredible 4096 x 2160 resolution.

Contrast Ratio

This is also another factor that you will have to consider when thinking about picture clarity. Contrast ratio is referring to how deep the black colors are, and how bright the white’s are. For a more crisp and defined picture, you will want to make sure that the projector you choose has a high contrast ratio.

Projector Lamp

If you are looking for a quality projector for your business, you are going to want to invest your money into something that is going to last a long time. Generally, the projectors on today’s market that will last the longest are using LED projector lamps. Most of these are rated for tens of thousands of hours, while other projectors with normal lamps are rated for around 2,000 hours only. Getting a projector with an LED lamp is obviously the better long term option here.

Throw

When talking about “throw”, this is talking about how far away from the screen the projector has to be in order to project a nice, clean image. Depending on the room that you’ll be using your projector in, there are plenty of options. Just make sure to take this into consideration. If you’re not sure, then don’t be afraid to ask.

There are many options for projectors out there, and choosing one isn’t going to be easy. But if you check in to everything I just told you, your life could be a little bit easier.

Impressive New Portable Projector From Philips That Runs on Android

Friday, January 10th, 2014

Philips is breaking down barriers when it comes to portable Android devices. Generally, when you think of portable Andriods, you think of smartphones, tablets, convertible laptops, or even watches. But the new PicoPix PPX3610 is taking it to a new level. It is a projector that connects to Wi-Fi and runs on the Android Operating system.

A home screen with all of your Android apps with all in one stereo system shows up on the projected screen and you can access them just like you would on a smartphone or tablet with the touchpad located on top of the projector. The device includes apps for rendering documents from a USB stick or external hard drive like PowerPoint. You also have the entire Google Play store to choose from, just like any other Android device.

You can use Netflix with the projector, play Android games, open documents, surf the internet, anything you want and anything you could do on a tablet or phone except with a way cooler screen. This tiny little portable projector can project a screen of up to 120 inches! The brightness of the LED-powered DLP light engine is 100 lumens when plugged in and 60 lumens when it is running on battery power.

There are multiple ways to get videos on the device. You can watch videos that are on USB sticks, stream videos from Netflix or YouTube, and since the PPX3610 connects to Wi-Fi, you can connect other devices to it and transfer videos that way. On top of the USB slot, there is also a mini HDMI and mini SD card slot located on the back, so you should have no problem finding a way to view your media.

There is a 1 watt speaker build into the device, which isn’t that impressive at all, but you can hook it up to any sound system, speaker set, headphones, or anything that you would like via the connection located on the back.

The battery life could be viewed as a downfall, lasting only about two hours. But first of all, that is long enough to watch a full movie, and second, what would you expect from a projector that wasn’t plugged in? Either way, you should make sure that you bring the power adapter with you,  just in case.

The New PPX3610 is set to release this month, and will retail for $549.

Tiny Instragram Projector Created on Kickstarter

Projecteo Tiny Instagram Projector

A new, extremely tiny projector is looking to bring back the glory days of sharing all of your favorite pictures with friends and family via slideshow. This device, known as Projecteo, was funded within 24 hours of life launched on Kickstarter. The device uses 35mm slide film so you can project your favorite Instagram photos for the world to see.

Even though this device isn’t the first of its kind, it certainly is the quaintest and the most easily transportable. The device is literally no larger than a Gigapet while the retro spectacle style seems to perfectly compliment the hipster style of Instragram. Know how to buy followers on instagram.

The Projecteo was inspired by the “magical qualities” of the metaphors produced by ancient Rollei projectors and uses a powerful LED combined with a lens and focusing mechanism in order to project “excellent quality” metaphors up to 2.5-feet wide in a pitch black room. It goes without saying that the extremely small size and LED limitations mean that this device may have problems in rooms with ambient light.

The Projecteo takes wheels of 35mm slide film that are specially produced to control nine full color Instagram metaphors on each frame. In addition to that, a compatible iPhone app is used to select the metaphors from Instagram and arrange them in the circular cutter and placed in a plastic wheel that slots into the projector. Additional photo wheels are available, though you have to order them separately.

Using the device is also said to be very austere. All you have to do, allegedly, is turn the device on, twist the lens barrel to focus and spin the wheel to change the image. You can still fund the project on Kickstarter. A $25 pledge will get you the Projecteo, which is probable to ship in either December or January. A $40 pledge will grant you a Projecteo in Rollei P35 projector colors while a $350 pledge will allow you to work with designers to make a one-off color combination. Finally, there is a $5,000 pledge, which could also get you one of three gold-plated devices.
